Art and connection

If this blog is all about art and connection, I do believe it is time I start a new blog habit of asking questions.

I automatically find myself rememberina a favorite quote. As a struggling reader I used the pictures in the books as rewards for finishing the next section. As a dyslexic this was challenging but I knew I wanted to connect. Art was the one thing that started a new conversation for me and in so many ways was my pathway into text literacy. Lewis Carol expressed it beautifully in this quote from Alice in wonderland.

“And what is the use of a book,” thought Alice, “without pictures or conversation?”

Conversations

Of course for me it is the pictures that take me away into such  wonderful worlds.  I have grown into a love of books and reading but the path has always been a visual one,

Perhaps this deep connection with art is the powerful force that has led me forward as I realize that art is the conversation that creates those deep soul connections.  Art was my pathway through a sea of words so I could get to the place where I understood. My imagination was unlocked and I could decode my world through art. That’s how I got to this point and I know there are so many reasons why art becomes a central point  in our meaning making. I wonder how art found its place in your heart and if you are giving it the space in your life that you would like to?

Questions

I thought that I would begin with a few questions because I love hearing about your art adventures. I also know that we grow and learn the most when we ask questions. Questions guide us and shape our way forward by getting to the heart of the matter. When we start asking questions, we start to get clearer about what we believe about art, the easier it is to take the step back into doing. I would suggest you write your answers into an art start journal. I would also love it if you join my private the Wild Soul Creativity Circle Facebook group and share with a supportive circle of women.

For me art makes me happy and is about balancing my world so I can be in that creative flow. When I create I am healthier, happier and far nicer to be around.

What does having  art in your life mean to you? Even if your not doing it right now, remember what it felt like when you were doing art regularly.

I really want to know what it is that attracted you to art in the first place and if it’s still an important part of your life?

Did you love it when you were younger but left it behind as you grew into who you were becoming or has art always been part of your world?

Yes I know we get busy but that is the block…how do we get to a space where we can create. I would love it if you took the time to share a little about your art…

Art pondering…

When was the last time you did something creative? Cooking, knitting, writing, singing…anything..
What was it and how did it make you feel?

When did you last do a drawing or a painting?
What was it about and what was the feeling of the artwork..
Are you still creating art? How come?
If you could paint anything, what would you paint?
Is art important to you?
What do you want to know more about in your art practice?
If you have stopped doing art and want to start again, what would you most want to learn?
